A Hero to All by Caitlin

In The Outsiders, there are many heroes among the Greasers. Some include Dally and Ponyboy. I think that Johnny Cade is the biggest hero in the story. He committed acts of bravery and kindness towards others. The definition of hero is, “A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.” My definition of hero is, “A person who is courageous, brave, and did something in which he or she is admired.” Johnny is a great example of a hero.

The first act of bravery he committed, was saving Ponyboy from drowning. Bob, a Soc, was trying to kill Ponyboy. Johnny ended up killing Bob instead. This was a very brave and hard thing for Johnny to do. In my opinion, I don’t think I could’ve been as brave as Johnny because I wouldn’t be able to kill another human being. It must have been an instinct for him to help out his friend. Johnny is a true hero for what he did to save Ponyboy’s life.

Johnny, yet again, was a hero when he went with Ponyboy into the burning church to save all the kids. If it weren’t for Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally, the kids wouldn’t have survived the fire. I don’t know if I would be able to do such a thing that they did, because I wouldn’t want to go into a burning building. I would probably just call for help. Unfortunately, when you take such risks, there are consequences. Johnny ended up dying in the hospital shortly after he saved all those kids. He gave his life for a bunch of kids he didn’t even know. That, in my opinion, is what a true hero does.

Johnny Cade fits my definition of hero because he was courageous, brave, and gave his life to save many others. When Johnny died, Dally totally lost it and ended up dying the same night Johnny passed away. Dally was in denial and couldn’t believe that he was dead. Along with the others, all the Greasers were shocked and hated the fact that Johnny was gone.

The Greasers all got along very well most of the time with Johnny in the picture. Now that Johnny is gone, they won’t get along as well as before. Johnny was the member of the gang who brought everyone together and lived every day to the fullest. He was a very selfless human being and didn’t care about himself as much as he cared about the rest of the gang. Johnny was always there for Ponyboy and would do anything for him. This is why he is considered a hero to the whole gang. Johnny’s parents were both drunks who didn’t even care about him. He never really cared for his parents either and would always put everyone else’s needs in front of his own.

In conclusion, Johnny was a very big part of the whole story. He will be forever remembered by the Greasers. He was a very brave person and did things that most people would not be able to do.
